Step 1. Know your dimensions
Start with the piece itself. You'll find the length, depth, and height on every product page. If you're choosing a modular, note the dimensions of the whole thing assembled, not just the individual sections. Packaging adds a little on every side, so allow a few centimetres of breathing room.
Step 2. Check the whole path in
Your piece has to clear every point between the truck and the room it's destined for, not just the front door. Measure:
- Doorways, width, height, and the diagonal, with the doors opened fully. If a doorway is too narrow, we may need to bring the piece through upright, so its height needs to be greater than the width of your sofa.
- Hallways and corners, width and depth, paying close attention to tight turns.
- Stairwells, the width at the narrowest point, plus ceiling clearance from both the top and bottom steps.
- Lifts, the door width and height, and the internal depth, so we know whether the piece fits flat or tilted.
- Gates, paths, and entryways, the approach to your home counts too.
Step 3. Picture it in the room
Here's a trick that works: lay out the footprint of your piece on the floor with masking tape or newspaper. It's the easiest way to see how much space it'll take, and whether you're happy with it before it arrives. While you're there, think about height too, will the back and arms sit well alongside your other furniture?
A note on larger lounges
Some 3-seater and 4-seater lounges are delivered in a single piece. That means the whole lounge has to be manoeuvred around your corners and into the room, not simply through the entrance. If you're buying a large piece, this is the measurement that matters most.
On the day
Help us get your piece in smoothly:
- Clear a direct path from the entrance to the room
- Move anything fragile or breakable out of the way
- Make sure someone's home to accept and sign for the delivery, and that we've got the right contact number for them on the day
The agreement
By placing your order, you're confirming that your piece can be delivered and placed in your home through standard access, and that you've checked it will fit through every doorway, hallway, stair, corner, and lift on the way to its room.
If a piece can't be brought in through standard access, we're unable to accept it back, so please measure carefully. If you're ever unsure, email us at sales@homelinefurniture.com.au before you order and we'll talk it through.
